How I Shipped 14 Hugging Face Spaces in a Year
Treating HF Spaces as a release pipeline — not a portfolio dump — compounded into 14 shipped projects in one year. System, cadence, and mistakes.
Most people open a Hugging Face Space, push a Gradio demo, and forget about it. I treated it like a release channel.
The Pipeline
Every Space I shipped followed the same flow: 1. Notebook in Colab — figure out if the idea works at all 2. Refactor into a single app.py — no clever modules, no premature abstraction 3. Push to a Space — let HF handle the runtime 4. Link it back to the notebook — so the lab and the product stay connected
What Actually Compounds
Two things compound when you ship this way: - The audience. Each Space gets organic traffic from HF's discovery surface. The 14th Space starts with momentum the 1st never had. - The infrastructure. By Space #5 you have a personal template. By Space #10 you have a battle-tested deployment script.
The Underrated Lesson
The lab work (Colab) and the product work (Spaces) feed each other. The PodXplain notebook became the PodXplainClone Space. The persona pipeline became Voice2Persona-AI. The lab is not separate from shipping — it's the first cell of the same notebook.
Mistakes That Cost Time
I also made plenty of mistakes along the way. Early on, I over-engineered a couple of Spaces with complex Docker setups when a simple requirements.txt would have worked. I also left several Spaces unlinked from each other, missing out on cross-promotion that HF's ecosystem naturally provides. One Space broke silently for two months because I never set up a basic health check.
What I'd Tell Someone Starting Out
If you're thinking about building on Hugging Face, start with the simplest possible demo. Don't wait for the perfect architecture. Push early, label your Spaces clearly with good descriptions and tags, and connect them to your other work. The compounding effect is real — but only if you maintain a consistent cadence. One Space a month is ambitious but achievable. The key insight is that HF Spaces aren't just a hosting platform; they're a discovery engine, a portfolio, and a deployment pipeline all rolled into one. Treat them seriously, and they'll pay dividends far beyond what a simple GitHub repo ever could.
