I was paying ₹2,400/month for Netflix, Prime, Hotstar, and Sony LIV.
Last month, I cancelled all four.
Not because I'm broke. Because I found something Indian devs have been quietly using for 2 years: CloudStream.
This is not a piracy tutorial. This is an open-source tool walkthrough. Here's the exact setup I use.
What is CloudStream?
CloudStream is a free, open-source Android app (like Kodi, but actually usable). It doesn't host content — it pulls from community-maintained extensions. Think of it as a browser for streaming sources.
Why it's better:
- Zero ads. Zero tracking.
- Works on phone, Android TV, Firestick
- 4K streams, subtitles, downloads
- One app instead of 4 subscriptions
Step 1: Download v4.7.0 (Latest)
Don't use Play Store clones. Get the official APK:
Download: github.com/recloudstream/cloudstream/releases/tag/v4.7.0
Install → Allow unknown sources → Open.
Step 2: Add These 4 Repositories
This is the part everyone gets wrong. CloudStream is useless without repos.
Go to: Settings → Extensions → Add Repository → paste one by one:
### 1. Official Extensions (most stable) https://raw.githubusercontent.com/recloudstream/extensions/master/repo.json
### 2. Phisher Extensions (Indian content) https://raw.githubusercontent.com/phisher98/cloudstream-extensions-phisher/refs/heads/builds/repo.json
### 3. MegaRepo (all-in-one) https://raw.githubusercontent.com/self-similarity/MegaRepo/builds/repo.json
### 4. CSX (fastest for movies) https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SaurabhKaperwan/CSX/builds/CS.json
After adding, go to Extensions → Install all.
Step 3: My Settings (Copy These)
- Video player: VLC (external)
- Default subtitle: English
- Auto-update extensions: ON
- DNS: 1.1.1.1 (faster streams)

1. Use Cloudflare Warp (free VPN) — doubles speed for Indian ISPs 2. Android TV Phone — the UI is built for TV 3. Download, don't stream — for flights and trains 4. Update weekly — repos break, devs fix fast

CloudStream is 100% legal open-source software (MIT license). What you watch depends on your country's laws. I use it for content I already have access to, and for testing my own video apps.
